Life of puppies at breeding
An overview of the development of our collie babies from birth to leaving in your family
The birth
Our moms live 100% at home two weeks before due date. They are installed in the maternity area where they sleep and can go during the day on request. The maternity ward is a small space dedicated to births attached to our bedroom: it is equipped with two whelping boxes, a radiator, a large window, an infrared lamp and a heating plate to maintain the nest around 30°c the first few days.
A meticulous cleaning is carried out every day and mom is fed at will!
The first 3 weeks
The litter remains well protected in the maternity ward. Puppies have their eyes and ears closed during this time. The eyes open around the 12th day and the ears around 21 days. Above all, they need warmth, calm and their mother! They are gently handled and weighed daily.
3 to 4 weeks
The little ones start to play and explore. They hear and see better and better: this is an important period for discovering noises and objects. They spend in the puppy park in the heart of our living room, which allows a soft and solid familiarization with life in the house, always accompanied by mom, they live their first outings in the garden essential for learning cleanliness! It's also the start of weaning with the first plates of mixed chicken! They are used to our cats and our daughters.
4 to 7 weeks
The puppies grow considerably and the litter begins to need space. They are installed in the puppy area: a 4m² chalet in which they find all the comforts to sleep, with access to a 10m² gravelled courtyard equipped with numerous games. Access to a 100m² grass puppy park is given to them every day. Mom still sleeps with them as long as she wants, then she visits them several times a day for education and feedings which are more and more spaced out. The puppies meet the adults of the breeding during the "releases" in the garden: some mothers rely a lot on the other adults to educate their little ones.
From 8 weeks until departure...
After the visit of the veterinarian at 8 weeks for the vaccines and the installation of the microchip, socialization is pushed with outings on a leash, car rides. We even have the right to a day of awakening at the Center Canin INOU to make great discoveries! We meet the cows and chickens next door. We receive some basic education and above all, we continue to have regular access to the house to become perfect companions!
And above all, they receive a lot of love and attention from their breeder...
